Discussion Topic: Who is our audience and how can we engage them?
Notes: Discussion Topic: Project Goals
Last week we identified a basic idea for the communication project we will be developing during the semester - eg to develop an online magazine/website aimed at 'young people'. How can we develop and refine that idea? What is our mission statement or theme?
Notes: Discussion Topic: Who is our audience and how can we engage them?
There are lots of campaigns designed to engage young people in particular issues or information. Can you identify any you've seen lately? Check out the sites and videos below, which all seek to engage young people in different ways. How can we use these ideas when planning our project?

Assessment 1: Research / Planning Activity: Speed Pitch!
During the second part of our class today you will be asked to start working in small groups to research and develop a presentation/pitch for an overall plan for the online magazine/website we will be developing. Your aim is to develop a project proposal which includes your ideas for the magazine/website and how it will engage young people.
Consider the following issues when planning your presentation:
Who is the target audience and who will it benefit?
What topics should be included?
How should the site look?
What technologies/tools should be used?
How will the site benefit young people?
Each group will be asked to give a 5 - 7 min Speed Pitch during class in Week 4! You can use presentation tools (computer, videos etc) during your pitch to illustrate your plans and strategies.
When the speed pitches have been completed, we will use them to develop a final plan for our class communication project.
Homework!
During the week you need to ensure that you have signed up for the class wiki and can access it. You will receive an invitation to join via email if you are not already a member (from last semester). If you dont have access to a computer and the internet at home, you will be able to undertake this activity at the library at TAFE.
You should also introduce yourself in our wiki discussion forum, which we will be using during the semester to keep track of our project! You can access it here.
